Educational purposes of blogs



 How can blogs be used in education?

There are many educational benefits of blogs. Blogs:


• Provides students with opportunities to read and write.
• Effective forums for collaboration and discussion.
• Enable cooperative learning and working as large groups.

• Link to supplemental videos, podcast and websites to encourage extended learning.
•Provides a forum of communication outside of the classroom settings, which can be used to  provide additional, appropriate material on topics studied in class.



Blogs can serve at least four basic functions.


1. Classroom Management

2. Collaboration

3. Discussions

4. Student Portfolios

Advantages of blogs in education


 Blogs are beneficial for students because they can be worked on at virtually any time, in any place with an Internet-enabled computer.
They can be used by teachers to create a classroom that extends beyond the boundaries of the school yard.
They require minimum technical knowledge and are quickly and easily created and maintained.
They are flexible in design and can be changed relatively easily.
Teachers can provide all their assignments through the blog interface, so everything is available in one convenient place.
Blogging promotes creativity and self-expression.
Blogs allow instant publishing.
Blogs can be updated easily, from anywhere.
No special blogging software is needed to create a blog.
